LEADERSHIP

CHRISTIAN O'CONNOR
FOUNDER &
MANAGING DIRECTOR
Christian is a global transformation strategist with a career defined by scaling innovation and delivering sustained financial performance. He founded Trident MedTech Strategies to share many decades of operating experience, allowing for consulting and fractional support where needed.
Previously, Christian served as President and CEO of GE HealthCare's Surgery business, an enterprise approaching ~$1B. Christian and team focused on new product innovation, industry collaboration, international expansion, supply chain resiliency, and operational efficiency.
Prior to that role, he had been appointed Executive Director, and held a series of global P&L positions across GE HealthCare including President and General Manager for Diagnostic Imaging in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In this $2B+ equipment and service franchise, he led a broad organizational transformation to integrate teams, drive digital growth and achieve share gains, price accretion, and significant improvements in cash performance and lifecycle value. Pivoting from established scale to disruptive agility, Christian also worked to successfully scale a private equity backed imaging company, Spectrum Dynamics Medical. As Global Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager for North America, he and his teams elevated the brand, launched new products, market repositioned, strengthened commercial infrastructure and advanced clinical relevance.
Christian’s MedTech leadership experience extends across the full value chain, including early-stage R&D, product strategy, commercial execution, manufacturing, supply chain, and lifecycle management. Before entering healthcare, Christian served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer and Diver in the U.S. Navy, advancing to Lieutenant Commander. He led teams responsible for reactor technology, engineering, navigation and tactical operations, earning multiple commendations for leadership and mission performance.
Christian holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Marquette University, and an MS in Engineering Management from The Catholic University of America. He is certified in Artificial Intelligence through Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and in Nuclear Engineering through the U.S. Department of Energy. Having lived and led globally, he is currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
OUR TEAM
Trident MedTech Strategies operates as a high-agility advisory firm. While Christian serves as the lead strategist and primary partner for every engagement, Trident maintains an elite network of contract industry experts, specialized engineers, and clinical advisors for scalable expertise. We don't believe in "one-size-fits-all" consulting. When a project requires deep-dive technical specialization, we activate our vetted network of industry veterans and subject matter experts. This model allows us to:
-
Assemble Mission-Specific Teams: We recruit and contract with world-class specialists tailored to the technical needs of your specific product or portfolio.
-
Maintain Objective Velocity: By utilizing a flexible expert network, we bypass the overhead of traditional firms, delivering senior-level execution with specialized speed.
-
Bridge Technical Gaps: Whether your project requires deep-dive regulatory support, AI engineering, or specific clinical validation, we activate the right expertise at the right time.
Vetting for Mission-Critical Success
Every network partner is hand-selected based on three core criteria:
-
Direct Industry Experience: Partners must have served in leadership or senior technical roles within MedTech or related high-stakes sectors.
-
Operational Pedigree: We prioritize "doers" over "theorists". We seek professionals who have successfully launched products or managed complex operations.
-
Systems Thinking: All collaborators must align with Trident’s disciplined, high-performance culture and systems-based approach to problem-solving.
The Trident Advantage
WHY US?
Beyond capacity, an engagement unlocks unbiased objectivity and specialized speed. We bypass the learning curve that slows down internal teams and generalist firms. While your teams manage daily complexity, we provide the external lens and executive expertise, bypassing hiring overhead, to unlock growth. Our insights come from experiences and best practices gathered from Fortune 50 and growth stage startups, not theoretical frameworks.
